The Nelson Police Department has seen an uptick in e-bike thefts over the last few weeks.
A media release from the NPD states that the thefts have occurred both in the downtown core and residential areas.
As a result, the department has issued the following tips for residents to help protect their bikes from being stolen:
- Always keep bikes locked when not in use, including at home.
- U-locks or heavy chains are the most secure, as they cannot be broken with bolt cutters.
- Consider purchasing a tracking device, which is reasonably inexpensive and can be installed inside bicycle tires.
- Having a picture of your bicycle or e-bike and knowing the serial number is also encouraged, as it can greatly improve the chances of police being able to recover it in the event that it is stolen.
Police are currently on the lookout for several stolen e-bikes, which are pictured above.

If you have any information on the thefts or spot any of the stolen bikes, police ask that you contact them to aid in their investigation.
