Nelson’s Paul Major hasn’t returned home empty handed after competing in the 70’s and over hockey competition at this years BC Senior Games held in Salmon Arm.
At 75 years young, Major was the eldest on his team, playing in defence as he helped his team secure the bronze medal.
“We did very well,” said Major.
“We won three games out of four in the round robin, but in the end, there were four teams out of seven that were tied for second place, and we were just one goal too few to go for the gold medal game.”
Major’s team versed the Vernon Canadiens in the Bronze medal games, shutting them out 2-nil for this win.
A score the team was used to seeing.
“We played four games and three out of four were shutouts,” said Major.
“In the end, we had a very good goalie, and we persisted.”
An even though it wasn’t the gold medal, the win tasted just as sweet.
“I learned that it was more fun winning the bronze than the silver. Silver means you lost your last game, and you are kind of down a bit,”
“Winning the bronze, we won our last game. So, we left the tournament really excited and happy. And the best thing for me was for the first time since I was a teenager, I was playing with kids my own age.”
