Village of Salmo conducting sewer line flushing this week

Residents of the Village of Salmo may notice brown water or splashing coming from their toilets this week as the Village conducts annual maintenance of its sewer lines.

The work is scheduled to take place from August 12 to 16.

Crews will be conducting sewer line flushing and inspections, beginning at Hutcheson, before moving down to 1st Street, up through to 7th Street, and eventually all the way through town until the work is completed on Friday.

The Village said that although crews do their best to minimize the impacts of this work, in certain cases, the water in your toilet bowl may turn brown or splash out of your toilet.

This is caused by the back pressure from the sewer lines to the toilet. Residents can help to contain the splashing by putting their toilet lids down. It’s also recommended that residents cover shower drains to prevent any excess backflow from entering tubs.

The Village apologizes for the inconvenience and appreciates the residents’ patience while the flushing is completed.
