$500 million residential development announced for Granite Point

A Vancouver-based developer has announced plans for a $500 million residential community at Nelson’s Granite Point Golf Course.

Hallō Nelson will feature over 300 residential units, retail stores, restaurants, hotels, senior living facilities, staff accommodations, and more, nestled along Canada’s first and only Troon-managed golf course.

Farhad Ebrahimi, Chief Executive Officer at Hallō Properties, came up with the idea for the development during a family trip to Nelson in 2020.

“On that trip, although I had seen many properties, none of those opportunities were realized. I was captivated in absolute awe because only Nelson is Nelson. It’s a natural phenomenon that has developed organically over decades, and I don’t know of any other place like it.”

Ebrahimi said the development will unfold in phases. The first phase will see the development of 24 luxury resort-style homes, called ‘The First Homes’.

The fully furnished, four-bedroom townhomes will be located on the fairway of Granite Point Golf Course. Presales for the homes are underway now, with prices starting at $1.85 million.

The First Homes will feature high-design, modern classic furnishings, with three main bedrooms and a privately accessed self-contained suite for family or guests, designed to attract a diverse demographic from retired couples to families.

A 25-metre pool, pavilion, clubhouse, gym, and tennis court are also being developed within the first stage, which Ebrahimi said should take 14 months to complete.

The Dodger – Canada’s First Troon Golf Course

Granite Point Golf Course is getting a revival, with Troon Golf, the world’s leading golf course management company, taking over operations of the course, rebranding it as The Dodger.

Ebrahimi said they’re developing a model for the golf course to ensure it’s economically viable and enduring for decades, with a focus on ensuring it can be enjoyed by Nelson locals.

“You need to take care of your community first and foremost. Residents of Nelson will have preferential treatment and fantastic values because this is a community asset, and they are the ones that are here year-round, coming up to the restaurant, not just the golf course.”

He said the golf course will offer locals cheaper rates, similar to a locals’ pass at Whitewater Ski Resort.

Benefits to Nelson

The development aims to enhance the community, with each stage being implemented diligently.

Ebrahimi said his team has been highly involved with different local retailers, restaurants, hotel operators, and grocery stores to ensure that when portions of the project are deployed, they are highly complementary to Nelson.

“The last thing that’s going to be done here is something that’s out of place. We have the perfect recipe, which is Nelson. All we are doing is complementing and enhancing the amenities and the programming a bit while maintaining true to the key ingredient, which is the specialness of Nelson.”

He promises the development will have significant benefits for the community, including job creation and economic stimulation through increased tourism.

“This project will elevate the local economy by drawing in destination tourism, which will benefit businesses on Baker Street, Whitewater, and other local establishments. We’re also providing staff housing, which will include access to health club facilities and wellness programs.”

Ebrahimi couldn’t provide a timeline for when the entire development will be complete but said the project team will work diligently to keep the community informed.
