New act to give workers international credit recognition in BC

Workers who have been trained internationally can use their skills in BC, thanks to a new credentials recognition act.

According to the BC government, the International Credentials Recognition Act aims to make it more fair, transparent, and efficient for workers to get credential recognition by removing barriers.

They say along with the barriers, the workers also face long waits before starting a career.

29 jobs will have barriers removed, including veterinarians, engineers, social workers, paramedics, early childhood educators, teachers, and biologists.

As part of these changes, the province adds a new superintendent will be appointed to oversee credential recognition, where they would address any systemic or procedural issues in that area.

This act came into effect on July 1.
