Nelson and Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) residents in areas E and F can learn more about wildfire mitigation efforts tomorrow night.
The Wildfire Risk Reduction Open House is a joint event with the City, RDCK and BC Parks and should provide residents some good information, according to Nelson’s Fire Chief Len McCharles.
“Get a better understanding of the risks were dealing with, but also some of the work we’ve been doing as a group and some of the upcoming work.”
Residents can also learn how they can reduce their own risk.
“Someone might say, look I own 10 acres and the difficulty is I can’t really Fire Smart the whole property,” explained Chief McCharles. “It’s about starting. It’s about understanding that the first 10 meters adjacent to your home, what can you do in that area.”
He also reminds residents that you can drop off garden and yard waste at many RDCK transfer stations free of charge this month.
The open house is presented by Nelson and Area Wildfire Risk Reduction at the Adventure Hotel in Nelson from 5:00 to 8:00PM on Tuesday, May 7.
