A multi generational park in Nelson’s Rosemont neighbourhood has received overwhelmingly positive support. That from Nelson’s Daybreak Rotary Club who were asked to conduct public engagement for the project last year. Margaret Milner was one the club’s members who presented the findings to city council this week.
“We had a public information meeting with the City jointly. We completed the survey as we presented tonight with an 87 per cent positive response.”
The Club is now asking council to allow City staff to proceed with the plan. It would include walking trails for people with mobility challenges, an natural playground, and possibly a spray park in Art Gibbons Park.
“We’re seeing that the Rosemont area does not have a park, except for that park , which is undeveloped,” Milner explains. And because of the location of Rosemont, children particularly do not have access to the lake or other city parks. So, that’s why we’re seeing, it’s really crying out to be developed for that part of our community.”
The park would have to be developed in a phased approached with the playground going in first. Fundraising is underway and the Rotary Club is asking the City to commit to the project so they can start going after grants.
