On May 1st, 1984, Nelson’s David Thompson University Centre was closed. An event is coming up on Tuesday to mark exactly 34 years since the province shut it down. The event includes a reading from local author Tom Wayman, who writes about the event in his new collection of essays If You’re Not Free At Work, Where Are You Free Literature and Social Change, Selected Essays and Interviews 1994-2014.Â
Wayman says there will also be a photo exhibit by Jeremy Addington featuring those affected.
Wayman feels it’s worth remembering as it’s a big part of Nelson’s history and impacted many in the community.
John Lent, a former instructor, will be performing.
The event is at 7:30pm at Nelson’s Oxygen Art Centre. A $5 donation is appreciated.
