There’s no immediate plans for the three remaining female members of the South Selkirk Caribou Herd. That from the province’s Director of the Caribou Recovery Program Chris Ritchie.
Ritchie says they don’t want to disrupt the three remaining females in case they are pregnant. He says part of the Province’s plan to help the herd was implementing a maternity pen, but high snow volumes created issues with that.
The Province did announced $27-million this week for a three year recovery program for all of BC’s 54 caribou herds. Richie says the government recognizes more needs to be done.
Ritchie says they are consulting stakeholders but want to hear from the broader public as well.
You can view the plan and provide input on the government’s caribou recovery plan before June 15.
