The City of Nelson hosted its open house for the 2018 Budget this week, with only a few residents attending the presentation.
Chief Financial Officer Colin McClure says this year’s three per cent tax increase is above inflation costs so that the City can put extra money into its Building Reserve fund.
McClure says there’s some costly upgrades needed.
The Nelson Public Library and Nelson Police Department building also needs a new roof and HVAC units which McClure predicts will cost between $200,000 and $300,000.
