Duck Bay will be getting a little help from the Columbia Basin Trust

The Duck Bay Wetland restoration project in Nelson is getting funds from the Columbia Basin Trust.

The trust granted the Friends of Kootenay Lake Stewardship Society $38,500 for the project from the Environment Grants Program.

Program manager Avery Deboer-Smith says it will go towards education and planting around the wetlands.

The Society is also planning a storm filtration system for the bay in partnership with the city.

This year in the spring and summer they’ll be planting more native species around the wetlands.

They’ll also be partnering with Wildsight BC for the Yellow Fish road project.  Students will go around painting yellow fish stencils near storm drains, educating the community about what is going down storm drains.
