Nelson-Creston MLA says new West-Kootenay mine will create more jobs in the region

The CertainTeed gypsum mine will go ahead now that it has Nelson-Creston MLA’s stamp of approval.

Michelle Mungall says the company will provide more employment in the West-Kootenay region.

She says construction of the mine will create 43 full-time positions and 17 more going into the future.

She adds CertainTeed is dedicated to reducing environmental impacts.

The environmental assessment certificate that was granted set out 21 conditions for the company to follow during the life of the mine.

Including a groundwater monitoring plan and a First Nations engagement plan.

 

Construction is expected to cost 23.7 million with annual operating costs of 4.3 million.
