The MP for Kootenay-Columbia wants the Federal Government to add more protection to Canadian pensions.
Wayne Stetski and NDP pensions critic Scott Duval want to introduce Bill C-384 to Parliament.
They say it will protect workers’ pensions and benefits if a company goes bankrupt, as well as force companies to provide termination or severance pay.
He believes Canada’s bankruptcy laws only protect employers by diverting workers’ pensions to creditors.
Stetski thinks Bill C-27, a bill which removes an employers legal obligations to fund their employee benefits, shouldn’t pass.
He wants to ensure employees are protected in the event of a bankruptcy.
There will be a telephone town hall at the beginning of February to explain more about the bill.
More information will be available closer to the date.
