Nelson is the latest community to impose Level 2 watering restrictions.
This means watering with a sprinkler or irrigation system is permitted only once per week. If you live at an even-numbered address you can only water on Wednesdays from 4 to 9 a.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. If you live at an odd-numbered address you can only water on Thursdays between the same hours.
Watering new sod outside of the permitted times is prohibited. There are no restrictions on hand watering vegetation or washing vehicles as long as you use a hand-held container or hose with a shut-off nozzle.
The city says its main water source, Five Mile Creek, continues to experience heavy water demand and in response, they’ve brought secondary sources in Anderson Creek and Selous Creek online to help the supply. However, streamflows continue to decline across all watersheds due to the hot, dry weather.
