Nelson Police are warning you about a new fraud targeting local residents using online classified ads.
Respondents to ads for employment have been receiving fake cheques in the mail.
Victims are asked to electronically forward large amounts of money to other people in other cities.
Sgt. Corey Hoy says there have been “a great number” of incidents targeting Nelsonites in the last two weeks.
Police ask anyone who receives such a cheque in the mail to be mindful of this scam and alert them or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
