One-day school closures as teachers ramp up strike

A local teachers union says the government has hit them with a stick.

Kootenay Columbia Teachers Union President Andy Davidoff says that’s what it feels like after the government threatened to reduce pay if they go to rotating strikes.

School District 20 will be the first in our region to have teachers walk off the job … That happens Tuesday following the BCRF’s decision to indeed go for escalating one-day job action.

Unless a settlement is found by Monday Kootenay-Columbia schools will be closed Tuesday.

Boundary schools will close Wednesday and those in the Kootenay Lake School District will close Thursday.
