Kaslo to rename street after Buck and Aya Higashi

Kaslo will rename a street after a Japanese Canadian couple interned there during World War II.

Next week Railway Avenue officially becomes Higashi Way in honour of the late Buck and Aya Higashi.

Former Kaslo resident Glenn Leyden suggested the idea to remember his beloved high school teacher.

Aya Higashi died last year at 96. She taught in Kaslo for over 30 years.
