SD 8 has chosen four schools to try and save from closure through the BC Government’s Rural Education Enhancement Fund .
Here’s Kootenay Lake School Board Chair Lenora Trenaman.
BC Government announced the new funding model last week to save certain schools earmarked for closure, but gave districts just one week to apply for funding.
The schools had to meet specific criteria such as being a community focal point and offering specific grades in that community.

Yahk Elementary was eligible but the board decided not to move ahead.
Trenaman hopes to hear from the Ministry of Education as to which of these schools will be accepted for funding by June 30th.
