Kootenay-Columbia MP Wayne Stetski has tabled a bill to establish a National Local Food Day.
It would fall on the Friday before Thanksgiving every year.
Kootenay Co-op’s Marketing and Outreach Manager Jaime Frederick says they fully support the development of a day to highlight locally produced food.
Frederick says the Kootenay Co-op supports more than 100 farmers and food producers throughout this region.
According to the Conference Board of Canada, 77% of Canadian consumers think locally produced food is important for their purchasing decisions.
