Grand Forks residents go to the polls Saturday in a by-election that could signal a change in tone. Depending on the outcome it may also heighten the tension that has dominated this term.
Seven candidates are running for the vacant council seat. Some have served at the table before while others are new to local politics.
Most candidates have campaigned as “team players” which is something that has often appeared lacking at council.
There has been bitter in-fighting over water meters and the unsuccessful Supreme Court attempt to have councillor Julia Butler kicked off council.

The mayor has repeatedly called for the city to move on from these controversies.
Voting takes place at Grand Forks City Hall from 8 am till 8 pm.
