Postal workers slam Castlegar changes

Local unionized postal workers in Castlegar say they’re outraged by the latest service cuts.

Cup-W vice president Cindy McCallum Miller says items requiring a signature will no longer be held at the downtown site as of May 12th.

She says from then on carded items will be kept at the two private postal outlets – Shoppers Drug Mart or Johnny’s in Robson – depending on your location.

McCallum Miller says that’s a public inconvenience.

She says management gave no reason for the change and suspects it’s an attempt to justify the elimination of two full-time clerk positions this week.

She suggests it’s a deliberate ploy to direct traffic from the post office.
