Rossland surprised by Voter Challenge win

The mayor of Rossland says she was surprised to learn her city won the recent Community Voter Challenge.

The Alpine City won the friendly contest involving Kootenay communities by increasing its voter turn-out the most compared to the 2011 Federal Election.

Kathy Moore says Rossland already had a history of strong voter participation and thought that might be hard to improve much further.

Rossland increased turn-out by 12.7% with an 81% participation rate. Slocan had a participation rate of 84%.

Among others Castlegar increased by 11.5% and Nelson by 10.9%.
