The city of Nelson and its neighboring regional partners are celebrating the biggest grant ever received by the RDCK.
The Federal government has announced a $4.6 million gas tax grant for the Nelson and District aquatic centre upgrade. That will cover 90% of the entire costs.
Nelson mayor Deb Kozak could hardly contain her glee in confirming the grant at the poolside earlier today.
The remainder of the $5.5 million project cost is already covered in the budget.
The huge grant means there is no longer a need for big borrowing so no extra taxation on residents.
