Jobless numbers up in Kootenays

Unemployment is up in the Kootenays.

The latest figures from Stats Canada show a jobless rate of 7.2% for December.

The size of the labour force is smaller compared to December 2014 but there are still more people out of work.

5,100 people are unemployed whereas a year ago that figure stood at 4,600.

These figures are for the entire Kootenays.

BC’s unemployment rate year-over-year is up to 6% from 5.4% in December 2014.
