GF Mayor reacts to labour breakthrough

The Mayor of Grand Forks doesn’t share the union’s characterization of the difficult labour talks with the city.

A deal has been announced involving a reduction of three city worker positions through attrition, no one will be let go.

The CUPE local had said the city showed no respect by initially talking about actually laying some people off.

Mayor Frank Konrad doesn’t agree the process was tense but admits it took longer than expected to resolve.

He says the end result is positive for everyone and the municipality didn’t have to suffer on it as he put it.

The reduction of three positions will save the city $300,000 dollars a year.
