Teachers union expects unpopular cuts

The President of the Kootenay Columbia Teachers Union has warned of a bleak outlook for the district.

Andy Davidoff is speaking to the $1.3 million deficit facing SD 20.

That’s in large part because of continued declining enrollment but also various other squeezes being made by the ministry.

But he says things like charging for bussing is a real possibility to help balance the books.

Davidoff says the picture regarding teacher cuts will become clear in March.
