Local woman to appear on History of Labour Doc

A local woman’s struggle for worker’s compensation in the 1950s will be brought to television this week.

Grand Forks’ Bea Zucco will appear in the documentary Working People: A History of Labour in British Columbia that will be shown on the Knowledge Network April 3rd.

Zucco fought the government after her husband contracted silicosis in 1955 from working in mines in the West Kootenay Boundary.

Zucco – who is now 91 – admitted she was surprised the network showed interest in her story.

She notes working conditions around mines have changed drastically since the 50s.
