BC’s racism hotline has received 600 calls since being launched last year

Attorney-General Niki Sharma says she is “comforted” by knowing that British Columbians subjected to racism are getting support.

Sharma said the hotline to report racist incidents has received about 600 calls since its establishment in May of last year.

She added that’s resulted in about 16-hundred incidents being referred to support agencies for assistance.

The toll-free line was set up in cooperation with the United Way to connect callers with support services and to assist them in filing police reports.

The data will also help the government determine where and when racist incidents occur.
