BC Premier David Eby is predicting more exemptions from American tariffs, as President Trump realizes the damage he’s causing to his country’s economy.
Eby says the 30-day exemption granted to the auto industry means Trump is finally realizing the economies of the U-S and Canada are intertwined.
But he maintains that piecemeal exemptions and changes aren’t good enough, our country will only settle for the elimination of all tariffs.
Eby is also reiterating his call for British Columbians to cancel any American travel plans, and to buy Canadian.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Trump spoke at length yesterday (Wednesday) about the U-S tariffs on Canadian imports and the Canadian retaliation, in what is being described as a “heated” telephone conversation.
Reports say Trump offered to drop some of the penalties if Canada did the same.
But Trudeau says there will only be a repeal of Canadian tariffs if all American tariffs are lifted.
Federal Finance Minister Dominique Leblanc says Canada isn’t interested in going “half way.”
