Nelson’s Sea Cadets are under a new Commanding Officer with Lieutenant (Navy) David Cherrington stepping into the top role.
On January 16th, command of the corps was transferred from Lieutenant (Navy) Michelle Harris to Lieutenant (Navy) David Cherrington by Major Kerri Winkleer, the Area Officer in Charge for the interior of British Columbia.
The appointment at 81 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Hampton Gray VC in Nelson was witnessed by the cadets of 81 RCSCC, Nelson mayor Janice Morrison, members of the Salmo and Nelson Legions and other Canadian Armed Forces members from the local area.
During the same ceremony, 81 RCSCC’s former Commanding Officer, Lt(N) Michelle Harris was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and confirmed in their position as Area Elemental Advisor (Sea) for the interior of British Columbia.
Over the next several months there are many exciting activities planned for the cadets of 81 RCSCC.
They will be attending a sports day in Castlegar, sailing and attending an outdoor weekend.
The corps always welcomes new cadets.
Cadets are between the ages of 12 and 18.

The corps meets once per week on Thursday evenings at the Nelson Covenant Church, 702 Stanley St. Other activities take place on select weekends during the year. Cadets.
Youth from the Nelson area including Castlegar, Salmo, Balfour, and areas in between are welcomed in the corps.
Adults who would like to volunteer with the corps are also welcome.
