Kootenay Lake Ferry mediation underway

The General Manager of the Western Pacific Marine, Odai Sirri, says they are waiting on the mediator to direct the next steps in the Kootenay Lake Ferry’s labour dispute.

They met with the BCGEU and the mediator earlier this week, where the Labour Relations Board proposed hearing dates for the following days: 4, 12, 13, and 14 February for the multiple applications currently on the docket. Including:

  • The union’s request for reconsideration of the global ESO – to reduce main lake service to only essential travel
  • The union’s request to nullify the stay issued for the cable ferries
  • WPM’s request for reconsideration of the cable ferry to deem them fully essential with no change in services
  • Other applications pertaining to ongoing disputes
