BC Labour Relations Board issues stay order for Harrop and Glade ferries

The cable ferries at Glade and Harrop have narrowly avoided job action that was set to significantly reduce sailings on Monday, January 6.

The BC General Employees’ Union issued a 24-hour strike notice on January 3 for the two cable ferries, which would have reduced sailings to eight round trips per day at Harrop and 16 per day at Glade.

That same day, ferry operator Western Pacific Marine applied to the BC Labour Relations Board for reconsideration, arguing that the essential services order was too restrictive.

A press release from Western Pacific Marine issued on January 5 announced that the Labour Relations Board had agreed to hold a meeting to reconsider the order.

A date for the meeting has not yet been set. In the meantime, the ferries will continue operating as normal.
