Nelson Police holiday check stop sees surprising results

The Nelson Police Department ran the first night of its holiday check stop campaign on the weekend, and officers were pleasantly surprised by the results.

The department is running a Counter Attack program this holiday season to encourage road safety.

It held its first night of check stops on Saturday, December 15, with a focus on sobriety checks.

Officers pulled over 100 vehicles, and although many were leaving holiday celebrations, there wasn’t a single impaired driver.

“The vast majority of people were very appreciative, which was nice. We saw many designated drivers taking a group of friends home, which is great!” says Corporal Van Huis.

The NPD will continue increased road checks for impaired drivers this month and asks that everyone plan a safe ride home before going out.
