Kootenay-Central MLA Brittny Anderson appointed to cabinet

BC Premier David Eby appointed a new cabinet on Monday, naming Kootenay-Central MLA Brittny Anderson as Minister of State for Local Governments and Rural Communities.

As a Minister of State, Anderson will act as a junior cabinet minister reporting directly to Premier David Eby.

Anderson is serving her second term as the Kootenay-Central MLA. In her last term, she served as the Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism and as a special advisor on youth.

In total, Eby’s new cabinet is composed of 23 ministers and four Ministers of State, supported by 14 parliamentary secretaries.

There will be separate ministries for Energy and Climate Solutions, and Mining and Critical Minerals, which the province says reflect its commitment to leveraging BC’s strength as a clean energy powerhouse with critical minerals that are essential to growing the clean economy.

Eby says the new cabinet’s top priorities include bringing down costs for families, strengthening health care, making communities safer, and growing the economy so everyone feels the benefits.

“These are big challenges, and tackling them all will take time. Getting there will take listening and learning from British Columbians of different perspectives,” Premier Eby said.

“While British Columbians may sometimes disagree, we all want the same basic things in life – a good paycheque, a home we can afford in a safe community, and high-quality health care that’s there when we need it. By working together on these common challenges, we can build a brighter future for everyone.”

Additionally, he says the cabinet reflects the diversity and strength of the province. It is composed of more women than men and includes individuals with relevant professional and community experience, which will bring a real-world perspective to tackling today’s big challenges.
