Two impaired drivers were removed from the roads in Nelson last week, prompting Nelson Police to issue a reminder on the importance of having a safe, sober ride home, especially with the holiday season right around the corner.
In both incidents, the drivers were caught by officers conducting routine patrols. Both drivers were observed driving erratically, subsequently pulled over, and handed a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impoundment.
Impaired driving kills hundreds of Canadians each year and injures thousands. The NPD takes the issue seriously, stating that if the statistics aren’t enough, motorists should consider the costly and inconvenient penalty for getting caught driving under the influence.
“The holiday season is coming up, with lots of Christmas parties. We want everyone to have a good time, and we want everyone to get home safe,” said NPD spokesperson Silk Edwards.
“So, if you’re thinking about driving after drinking—just don’t. In Canada, there are over 75,000 impaired driving incidents every year. We don’t want you to be one of them. We don’t want to give out tickets. We want everyone to be safe.”
