BC gamblers wagered 30 per cent more money on American Election than the Super Bowl

The BC Lottery Corporation says fellow gamblers emptied their wallets during the 2024 American Election.

Spokesperson, Matt Lee told Vista Radio while they don’t expect to match or break the record of 4.5 million dollars wagered in 2020, provincial gamblers bet 30% more on the big vote south of the border than this year’s Super Bowl.

“I don’t believe we are going to quite reach that figure but it certainly was a very popular event again – more popular than this year’s Super Bowl or any game that was played in the Stanley Cup playoffs – we are really excited to see the results as well as the interest in betting on the election.”

“Without a shadow of a doubt, it makes it the most popular single-event for betting this year on PlayNow.”

Lee adds there was pretty much a 50-50 split in terms of the money wagered on President-elect Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

Currently, Trump has 295 electoral votes, well surpassing the 270 mark required to win the Electoral College.

He also won the popular vote with about 51 per cent.

As expected, Republicans also recaptured the Senate.
