Nelson’s Baker Street has made the province’s list of best town main streets according to World Atlas, along side the likes of Whistler, Tofino and Smithers.
Nelson’s Mayor Janice Morrison says Nelson continues to prove itself a tourist destination.
“I’m really proud that our vibrant downtown and local business community have been recognized, it’s fantastic.” said Morrison.
“I think that we hold our weight well with any of those larger tourist areas.”
Mayor Morrison says the city’s main streets remains a focus of council as they continue to boost the local economy.
“Ever since the 80’s when we had an economic downturn here, with the close of businesses and people couldn’t afford products, and some closures of our educational facilities, the revitalization of Baker Street was very important to reinvigorating Nelson.”
“It’s so impressive and it just makes me so proud to be a part of a community that is so progressive and innovative in just so many different ways.”
