BC Election recounts begin this weekend

We should know the final results of the provincial election on Monday.

In an update from Elections BC, they say they’re dealing with about 30 per cent more mail-in and absentee ballots than they had expected – about 65-thousand to be counted.

Two recounts are being done this weekend in the Surrey City Centre and Juan de Fuca-Malahat ridings won by the NDP, where the margin of victory was less than 100 votes.

In addition, a partial recount is also being done in Kelowna-Centre where there was a minor problem with a vote tabulator.

The New Democrats currently have 46 seats while the Conservatives have 45 with 47 as the magic number to achieve a majority.

The Green party won two seats and could hold the balance of power.
