Eligible voters in the three West Kootenay ridings can cast their ballots for the upcoming provincial election this week.
Advanced voting is taking place from Thursday, October 10, to Sunday, October 13, and again on October 15 and 16 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
There are six advanced voting locations for the Kootenay Central riding, five for the Kootenay-Monashee riding, and eight for the Boundary-Similkameen riding, three of which are located in the Kootenay-Boundary region.
Kootenay-Central incumbent Brittny Anderson says there’s a lot at stake in this election and urges residents to cast their ballots when they can.
“Voting is so important in this election. There is so much at stake, and it is really easy to do. You have a lot of opportunities. So bring your friends out, help your neighbours, give people a ride, and help get people to the polling station so they can vote.”
For those concerned about the registration process, Anderson says as long as you show up at the polling station with one of three forms of identification, you’ll be able to cast your ballot.
“There are three forms of identification that you can choose from. One can be something as simple as your driver’s licence, BC ID, or a passport. A second option would be two pieces of ID, which could be something like a bank card or your tenancy agreement to show your address.”
If you don’t have identification, Anderson says you can have someone vote for you. This could be a family member or community member who knows you and can vouch for your identity to help you cast a vote.
