Rescinded: Stage 3 Water Conservation Measures in Effect for the South Slocan Water System

Rescinded October 15, 2024

Effective immediately, the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) has implemented mandatory Stage 3 Water Conservation Measures for the South Slocan Water System in Electoral Area H due to low source water flows and to facilitate adequate night-time reservoir filling and recovery.

“We’ve got water operators assessing the situation over the coming days, and we have remote alarming if threshold low water levels in the reservoir flag. At this time, we don’t believe that there’s a leak.” said Utility Services Manager Chris Gainham.

Stage 3 Water Conservation Measures include:

  • Watering of lawns is prohibited,
  • Watering of gardens, trees and shrubs is ONLY permitted between 6:00 am – 10:00 am and 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm,
  • Watering using drip irrigation, a watering can, and or handheld hose permitted anytime.

“We continue to monitor reservoir levels and recovery over the coming days and, again, have operators on call 24 -7 should response be required. If water users experience water outages or observe major leaks or pipe breakage, they can certainly call the RDCK water 24 -hour emergency lines in the Nelson area, which includes the South Slocan system 250 -352-1504 to report it.” said Gainham.

The RDCK appreciates your cooperation in adhering to the above water conservation measures. Stage 3 Water Conservation Measures will remain in effect until further notice. Stricter water conservation measures may be required if demand increases significantly, dry weather persists, or if the reservoir declines to critically low levels.

Additional water conservation measures are available on the RDCK website: www.rdck.ca/water.
