Nelson Fire and Rescue Services were called to the scene of a hedge fire behind a house at 216 Anderson Street on Tuesday morning. August 20.
The fire service said crews responded to reports of the blaze around 5:30 a.m.
Nine fire fighters responded to the call, including seven off-duty members called in from home.
When the first crew arrived, they found a large hedge on fire, with neighbours attempting to extinguish it with a garden hose.
After safeguarding nearby buildings to limit the fire’s growth, crews were able to gain control of the blaze quickly, remaining on the scene for an hour to check for hot spots.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Nelson Fire & Rescue Services reminds residents that campfires, including fires in fire pits, and fireworks are not permitted within city limits.
