The Tire Stewardship of BC will be hosting a tire collection event in Nelson on Saturday, August 17.
Residents can drop off their old or unused tires, on or off the rim, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at OK Tire, located at 801A Front Street.
The tires collected will be transported to a processing plant, where they will be broken down into their components and turned into new, useful products, circulated back into the province’s economy.
Metals are melted into construction materials, and fibres are used as fuel.
Additionally, some of the recycled rubber is turned into running tracks, arena flooring, or playground surfacing as part of the TSBC Community Grant Program.
In 2023, TSBC collected nearly 6,000 old and unused tires through these collection events.
