David Travis, the man accused of deliberately starting several fires around Nelson last week, has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court via video conference on August 7, 2024, according to an update from the Nelson Police Department.

A Nelson resident has been charged with one count of arson, after being caught earlier this week deliberately starting fires around town.

The BC Prosecution Service has approved the charges against Nelson man, David Travis, following a diligent investigation by Nelson Police officers.

Nelson Police want to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the public whose timely information and cooperation led to the swift apprehension of Mr. Travis.

The collaborative effort between the community and the department underscores the importance of public involvement in maintaining safety and security.

On July 24, Nelson Fire and Rescue Services put out two fires, one in Gyro Park near the playground, and the other in a wooded area on the south side of the rail tracks near the Chahko Mika Mall.

Mr. Travis remains in custody, with his next hearing scheduled for Monday, July 29
