Nelson Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance following two hit and run incidents from Sunday, June 9.
Stanley and Gore Streets Collision
At 9:43am, officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a black truck at the intersection of Stanley Street and Gore Street.
According to the victim, the impact caused them to lose consciousness for several minutes.
Despite their injuries, the victim managed to continue walking to their workplace where a coworker contacted the police.
The victim was subsequently transported to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Youth Struck on Third Street
Meanwhile, at 1:27pm, officers responded to another report of a hit-and-run collision involving a cyclist and a motor vehicle.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Third Street and Behnsen Street, where a youth cyclist was riding along Third Street approaching the intersection when a black GMC Sierra truck stopped at the intersection.
The cyclist proceeded through the intersection when the truck suddenly pulled forward, striking the rear tire of the bicycle and causing the cyclist to fall.
The driver of the truck did not stop and continued driving away from the scene.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing the collision and observed the aftermath.
The injured cyclist was transported to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The vehicle is described as a 2015-2020 model year GMC Sierra pickup truck, black in colour.
The driver is described as a Caucasian male, aged in his late 50’s-early 60’s, moustache.
The Nelson Police Department does not know if the two incidents are related as the vehicle’s described in both of these collisions were black trucks.
The Nelson Police Department is actively investigating these incidents and urges anyone who may have witnessed one of these collisions or has information about the vehicle or driver involved to come forward.
If you passed by the area of either incident and have dashcam footage, this may also be of assistance to investigators.
