Prescribed burn planned for Meadow Mountain

Residents and motorists around Meadow Creek, north if Kaslo, are being advised of a potential prescribed burn in the area from today, Tuesday, June 11.

The BC Wildfire Service will be supporting BC Timber Sales in conducting the burn covering up to 23 hectares on Meadow Mountain, approximately 3 kilometres southwest of Meadow Creek.

The exact timing of this burn will depend on weather and site conditions.

Smoke may be visible from Lardeau, Cooper Creek, Meadow Creek, Argenta and Johnsons Landing and to motorists travelling along Highway 31 and the Duncan FSR.

Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable to achieve objectives and allow for smoke dispersal, though smoke may linger in the following days, particularly the morning after burn operations. Despite all precautions to manage it, unintended smoke impacts are possible after any burn.

Key goals of this prescribed burn include:

  • Reduce build-up of dead and combustible material
  • Prepare the site for replanting
  • Reduce future risk of catastrophic wildfires

To report a wildfire, unattended campfire or open burning violation, call 1 800 663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cellphone. For the latest information on current wildfire activity, burning restrictions, road closures and air-quality advisories, visit: bcwildfire.ca.
