Uphill’s notorious grizzly bear residents appear to have terminated their tenancy for the winter, according to social media posts from Wildsafe BC, the City of Nelson and RDCK.
The Great Northern Rail Trail is open once again. The city said they were given the green light by the local conservation team yesterday afternoon.
The closure was done as a precaution to prevent any harmful interactions with the animals. It seems to have been a successful measure seeing as there were no reports of aggressive or alarming interactions during their stay.
Despite the grizzlies’ absence, the community is still urged to be bear aware as black bear activity on the trails is anticipated to increase in the coming weeks as they too move up the mountain for winter denning.
