Nelson’s Wildflower School has appointed a new principal.
A media release from School District 8 has announced that Dr. Nick Graves, current principal of Lucerne Elementary-Secondary School in New Denver, will be transitioning into his new role as principal of Nelson Wildflower School on Jan. 1.
Dr. Graves has held many leadership roles in school districts throughout the province. Since 2017 he has been the principal for Arrow Lakes Online Learning School with School District 10. In previous years he has served as principal of B.C Offshore Schools and as vice-principal and teacher at an independent First Nations school in Bella Coola.
“Our search for an exceptional principal to lead Nelson Wildflower is now complete. I’m very happy to share with our Wildflower families, students, and staff that we have highly skilled and experienced leaders and educators in place for the coming school year to support this wonderful, unique program,” said SD8 superintendent Trish Smillie.
The media release said former SD8 principal Rod Giles will take on the role at Wildflower School until the end of September. District principal Naomi Ross will hold the title from the end of September through Christmas, until Dr. Graves’ arrival.
“On behalf of all staff in SD8, I extend our warmest welcome to principal Graves in anticipation of his arrival, and to principal Giles whose return to the district is a boon for staff and students at Nelson Wildflower,” Smillie said. “I also thank district principal Ross whose experience as principal of Wildflower from 2011 to 2018 will serve the Nelson Wildflower community well until principal Giles arrives in the new year.”
