Category 2 open fires will be banned again as of noon Friday throughout the Southeast Fire Centre.

The BC Wildfire Service says it’s due to increased fire danger ratings and a warming trend throughout the southeast. The prohibition is expected to remain in place until Oct. 28 or further notice.

The ban specifically applies to the following:

  • Fireworks
  • Binary exploding targets
  • Air curtain burners
  • Sky lanterns, and
  • Burn barrels or burn cages

This prohibition does not apply to campfires that are a half-metre high by a half-metre wide or smaller nor to cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes.Larger Category 3 open fires have been prohibited throughout the Southeast Fire Centre since May 18.
