Qualifying families and individuals will have access to 10 affordable rental homes in Kaslo’s Penny Lane Apartments.
The three story, ten-unit apartment building located near downtown Kaslo is close to amenities and offers a mix of studio suites, one, two and three-bedroom units with two units designed to be accessible by individuals with disabilities.
Monthly rent is expected to range from $375 to $1,600, depending on the unit size and resident household income.
In a media release the province stated that the Penny Lane Apartments project is part of its $19-billion housing investment.
Since 2017 the province says it has developed 700 homes in the Kootenay region, including three affordable housing complexes in Nelson located on Hall Street, Nelson Avenue and in Rosemont.
The project was funded through a partnership between the province, federal government, Columbia Basin Trust, the Village of Kaslo and the Kaslo Housing Society.
“It’s so exciting to know that on July 1, 2023, we will see the 10 new housing units in Kaslo filled with deserving tenants,” said Mayor Suzan Hewat in the release.
“The Kaslo Housing Society board, village council and staff worked in partnership to assess potential sites and determined that the current site was an excellent fit because of its central location with all services readily available. The willingness to have the building fit in the village’s heritage zone and blend with their neighbours is also greatly appreciated.”
Individuals and families who qualify can apply for housing at Penny Lane Apartments on the BC Housing website.
