Witnesses sought to Ymir assault

RCMP have put out a call for witnesses to a serious assault on the railway path off Highway 6 near Ymir.

They say the incident occurred Oct. 11, 2022 and resulted in a man being beaten by someone and taken to hospital.

Cpl. Darryl Orr said they have been investigating ever since.

“Police are reaching out to the public in hopes that someone will come forward who either witnessed this assault or knows who the suspect may be,” he said.

He said the victim suffered “severe facial injuries,” and while he has since recovered, he is still feeling some effects from the incident.

Orr said the incident was not random and the two men were “semi-known” to each other, so they don’t think there is any danger to the public. He said it appeared to be a “confrontation that got out of hand.”

“We do believe there are people who know about this incident, so we’re hoping their conscience will get the better of them and they’ll call to let us know what happened,” Orr said.

You can call the Salmo RCMP at 250-357-2212 if you have any information.
